Urban Issues

Bloch's Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation features 2 of the thirteen top-ranked researchers in entrepreneurship and innovation.

The School of Dentistry provides $5.5 million in free and reduced health care to 60,000 patients annually.

The Ivanhoe House allows UMKC students to live within an urban neighborhood and serve as academic and social mentors to its youth.

The School of Education formed the Institute for Urban Education to specifically focus on the needs and challenges facing urban schools.

Performing Arts

The Conservatory of Music and Dance celebrated its 100th Anniversary in 2006.

Several KC arts organizations were founded with the help of Conservatory and Theatre Department faculty, alumni and students, including the Lyric Opera, the Kansas City Ballet, the Quality Hill Playhouse and the Kansas City Chorale.

UMKC is associated with the Kansas City Repertory Theatre,
a highly regarded regional theatre.

This year, Dr. Paul Rudy has joined the ranks of his three fellow colleagues in the composition department when he was awarded a 2008 Guggenheim Fellowship Award.
